Take up the challenge this summer and walk around the world for wildlife, in celebration of Wild Welfare’s 10th Anniversary.

How far do you walk in a day? Do you want to achieve or surpass your daily 10,000 steps target, or even challenge yourself to walk 10 kilometers a day?

Lace up your boots and put your best foot forward for animals in need across the globe.

The challenge is simple - walk as far as you can each day in June and track your distance with Strava. Get sponsored and help us to raise funds for animals in need.

There are an estimated 10,000 captive wild animal facilities worldwide, a significant number of which have poor welfare standards resulting in the suffering of thousands of animals every day.

To help change this, you can take part in the event either as an individual or as part of a team and, as a bit of competitive fun, there are prizes to be won for the top individual fundraiser and for the team that walks the most miles overall!

What’s more is that we will be adding up the collective miles as we go in an attempt to reach our goal of walking around the world (that’s the equivalent of 24,900 miles), whilst stopping at the countries we work in along the way and virtually visiting our projects. We are really looking forward to sharing and celebrating these exciting milestones with you.

The event will officially start on the 1st June and miles walked throughout the month, ending on 30th June, will count towards the overall total. Alternatively, if you can't walk every day, see if you can clock up the miles at the weekends or even participate in a single day event whenever you choose. Let's see how far we can get! You can take part wherever you are in the world and be a voice for animals.

Wild Welfare relies solely on donations to fund our work and the generosity of our supporters like you. All funds raised will go towards our vital projects improving captive animal welfare around the world. To date we have supported over 785 captive facilities, trained over 4,000 people in animal care and welfare concepts and had an impact with our animal welfare work in over 45 countries. The need for our work to improve animal welfare around the world is growing and we’d love you to get involved by joining in this event and helping us to help animals.

Signing up

To sign up, just click on the green 'Create a Team' or 'Fundraise for Us' button at the top right hand side of this page, and you'll be guided through the process to register for the event and set up your fundraising page. Set your own fundraising target to raise as much as you can to help animals in need and you can start raising funds as soon as you sign up.

Logging your activities

The simplest way to track your progress is to download the Strava app and set up your account (or sync with your existing one), which you'll have the option to do when you sign up. Once you've completed this step, you can record your distance walked throughout June, and they will automatically be added to your personal fundraising page (and team page if you are part of a team).

If you aren't a Strava user, or you forget to log an activity, you can simply click the 'Add an activity' button below your distance target on your page, and enter the details manually.

Share your page

Once you've registered, you'll be sent an email with the link to your own personal fundraising page. You can send that link out to friends and family, and there is also a tool on your page that will give you the option to share your page or activities directly to social media.

Join or create a team

You can join up with friends or colleagues to see how much you can raise together and compete against other teams to see who can raise the most! When you register, you'll have the option to create a team (the maximum number of team members per team is 5). Once you've set up a team, you'll be given the opportunity to invite others to join you by sharing your team page link. As a team you'll be able to see how much you've raised collectively. To join an existing team, search for the team name in the search bar at the top. Alternatively, scroll to the very bottom of the event page and you will find all of the event teams listed. Once you've found your team, click on their page and scroll down to the get involved section on the right hand side and then click on the green join team button.

Prizes

The top individual fundraiser will win a beautiful original artwork by wildlife artist Kim Cartwright titled ‘Bearly Awake’ (acrylic on canvas). The team that walks the most miles and tops the distance leaderboard will win limited edition Wild Welfare T-shirts.
